HOW TO GET TO BELLAGIO – Lake Como -Italy

The following fact article has been compiled as a guideline only.

My Bellagio cannot deal with individual queries regarding transport schedules which are subject to variation according to the day of the week / time of year.

FROM MALPENSA AIRPORT. Exit airport – Follow green signs for Milano – After approximately 14 kms take exit for A8 always in Milano directions (Green Signs) – Exit A8 for A9 in direction Como/Chiasso – Exit Como/Chiasso after road toll for COMO SUD – Follow signs for CENTRO – From center of Como, follow signs for Bellagio, follow lake side road for 35 kms to Bellagio (lake will be on your left hand side).
FROM LINATE AIRPORT. Exit airport – Follow signs for Milan onto four landed wide avenue, keep on right – Exit for Vimercate/Lecco/Venezia/Tangenziale Est – Follow highway for approximately 15 mins – at road toll follow signs for Lecco – Continue straigh following main road in direction Lecco – do not cross bridge into Lecco – At roundabout take second exit for Bellagio – Follow lakeside road for 21 kms to Bellagio (lake will be on your right hand side).

• BY PRIVATE COACH:
IMPORTANT   Please note that the road from Como to Bellagio (32 Km)  is not large enough for big coaches (anything larger than a 16 seater).  There are four different solutions of how to reach Bellagio with larger vehicles depending on where you are coming from:
 FROM LECCO:
1)     Lecco – Bellagio 22 Km. Along the lake side. Not very large road but accessible to larger vehicles.
2)     Lecco – Varenna from where you can catch a car ferry (bus and/or only passengers or boat (only passengers) to Bellagio. For touring in Bellagio the bus is not necessary.
FROM COMO:
Como – Tremezzo 20 Km from where you can cross by boat or hydrofoils (only passengers) or Cadenabbia 21 Km from where you can cross using the car ferry ( bus and/or only passengers) or boats (only passengers) to Bellagio. FROM COMO and LECCO:
3)     Reach Erba then on to Asso, Magreglio, Civenna and Bellagio (Erba – Bellagio 25 Km).  This is a Panoramic road which passes through the mountainous area of Bellagio.

Buses parking places in Bellagio are situated by the lake side just after the Villa Melzi entrance only 3 minutes walking distance from the centre. There are public toilets nearby.

The times of first/last buses/ferries and their frequency as indicated below are to be considered as a guideline only and we strongly recommend consulting all the links provided for updated timetables.
FROM MALPENSA AIRPORT:
FIRST OPTION: Train to Como
Step 1 – Milan Malpensa / Saronno
“Malpensa Express” is a train leaving from Malpensa Terminal 1 (below the Ground Floor / Arrivals area) to Saronno. Purchase your ticket to Como Laghi/Lago.
First train departs at 6:53am always check Last train departs at 9:53pm
Frequency: approximately every two hours
Journey time from Malpensa to Saronno: 35 minutes
Cost of ticket: about €8 , per person from airport to Como
Step 2 – Saronno / Como
Change trains at SARONNO and wait for the one to Como.
First train departs at: 6:04am always check Last train departs at: 9:34pm
Frequency: Connecting trains to Como every 30 minutes
Journey time from Saronno to Como: 20 minutes
Step 3 – Como / Bellagio
There are different travel options to get to Bellagio from Como Laghi railway station:
A) Bus (easiest & cheapest )
Buses depart from the bus station opposite the railway station. Tickets from the bus station ticket office.
First bus departs at 6:25am (always check) Last bus departs at 8:14pm
Frequency: approximately every two hours
Journey time to Bellagio: 1 hour and 20 minutes
Cost of ticket: about € 3,60
Bus stop in Bellagio is by the Post Office, opposite the car ferry landing stage.
B) Boat or Hydrofoil: (hydrofoil is quickest )
5 minute walk to the lakefront and boat ticket office (Cross the road to the lake opposite the station and turn left). Tickets to be purchased prior to boarding.
First hydrofoil to Bellagio: 7:33am (always check) Last hydrofoil to Bellagio: 7:10pm
Frequency: Every two hours – they are more frequent at lunchtime and early evening
Journey time: 40 minutes
Cost of ticket: around €9,50 per person
First boat to Bellagio: 9:20am (always check) Last boat to Bellagio: 3:10pm
Frequency: Infrequent service
Journey time: 2 hours
Cost of ticket: about about € 7,50 per person
Remember that you can always book a taxi from Bellagio which will meet you at the arrival platform in the station.
Second Option : Airport Bus from Malpensa to Como
SPT Como buses depart from the airport terminal for Como.
Tickets to be purchased at the Airport 2000 desk inside Terminal 1, Arrivals Hall. Tickets can be pre-booked through their website.
Exit airport Door 4 and cross the road.
Bus departs from Bus Stop No.13
First bus to Como: 8:30am (always check ) Last bus to Como: 7:30pm
Frequency: Approx. every two hours
Journey time: Approx. 1 hour
Cost of ticket: about €15 -20 per person
Step 3 – Como / Bellagio
There are different travel options to get to Bellagio from Como:

Third Option Airport Bus from Malpensa to Varenna
GIANOLINI bus service * from Malpensa Airport to Varenna
From terminal 1 departure is from outside Door 7.
From terminal 2 the departure is from the arrivals area.
Cost of ticket: about € 18-20
Every day except Sundays.
Step 1: – Malpensa / Varenna

FROM LINATE AIRPORT:
Step 1 – Linate / Milan Central Station:
Starfly Bus to Milan Central Station – tickets to be purchased inside the airport terminal near the Arrivals area
First bus: 5:40am Last bus: 9:35pm
Frequency: Every 30 minutes
Journey time: 30 minutes
Cost of ticket: ABOUT € 4
Step 2 – Milan Central Station / Varenna:
The bus stops at Milan Central Station from where there are train services Varenna (on the eastern coastline, opposite Bellagio). * Please note that the final destination of the train is indicated and not the intermediate stops.
For trains to Lecco and Varenna the final destination is Sondrio or Tirano.
First train: 05:02 always check Last train: 9:08pm
Frequency: Trains from Milan to Lecco and Varenna approx. every 2 hours
Journey time: approx. 1 hour 10 minutes
Cost of ticket: ABOUT €5-6 per person
Step 3 – Varenna / Bellagio:
From Varenna to Bellagio, exit the station and either take a taxi to the boat landing stage (approx. cost €8 ) or turn left and walk down the numerous steps to the road at the bottom. To avoid step you can follow the normal road. Turn right until you come to a crossroads (there’s a bar on the right hand corner). Turn left and cross the road – you are now on the main road. Take the immediate right hand turning and walk down towards the lake. At the bottom, turn left and you’ll see the boat ticket office on the right.

There is a choice of either boats or car ferries from Varenna to Bellagio – both are 15 minute crossings and the only difference is the different point of arrival in Bellagio. The ferry and boat landing stages in Bellagio are within a 5 minute walk of each other right in the centre of the historical part of the town.

FROM BERGAMO ORIO AL SERIO AIPORT:
Step 1 – Bergamo airport / Bergamo railway station
Buses for Bergamo railway station depart from outside the Arrivals Terminal, Bus stop no. 814. The bus (number C1) is not a dedicated airport bus and the stop is a request bus stop. Tickets to be purchased at the Bergamo Tourist office inside the terminal. The office is open in Italian office hours. The bus stops 200m from Bergamo railway station.
First bus: 7:04am always check Last bus: 10:12pm
Frequency: Every 30 minutes
Journey time: 15/20 minutes
Cost of ticket: about €2,50
Step 2 – Bergamo Station / Lecco
Tickets to Varenna to be purchased at the ticket office and validated in the yellow machines at the end of the platform or near the ticket office
First train: 6:05am always check Last train: 10:26pm
Cost of ticket: about € 4,90
Step 3 – Lecco / Bellagio
Outside the train station you can catch a bus directly to Bellagio. Unfortunately they are not very frequent. Tickets can be bought in the Newsagent in the Train Station.

Step 4 – Lecco / Varenna
Change train at Lecco (use underground passageway – it is prohibited to cross on the railway tracks) and await connecting train to Varenna
First train: 6:06 always check Last train: 9:59pm

FROM MILAN CENTRAL RAILWAY STATION:

IMPORTANT:
Train tickets must always be purchased before travel. You must stamp your tickets in the yellow machines usually to be found at the end of the platform. During your journey, an inspector will check your tickets and if you are found without a ticket or an unstamped ticket, you will be fined.
BY PRIVATE CAR / VAN TRANSFER :
suggested if you’ll be welcomed in my Bellagio centre arriving from airports or railway station
The quickest and easiest way to get to Bellagio from airports or railway stations is by private transfer. Your driver will meet you outside the Customs Area and transport you directly to your hotel/apartment.
Approximate journey times:
Milan Malpensa airport to Bellagio – 1 hour 45 minutes
Milan Linate airport to Bellagio – 1 hour 20 minutes
Bergamo Orio al Serio airport to Bellagio – 2 hours
Milan Central Station to Bellagio – 1 hour 30 minutes.
